Dr. Zhai is currently working as the Chief Engineer (CTO) and Dean of the Central Research Institute of Goldwind. He is responsible for managing the group's technical system, technical strategic planning and implementation, and company-wide integrated products development review and approval at Goldwind. Dr. Zhai formed the Offshore Business Unit of Goldwind and served as the first general manager. He led the team to develop 6MW level and 8MW level permanent magnet direct drive wind turbine with fully self-service intellectual property rights. He made breakthroughs in key technologies through independent innovation such as integrated design of offshore wind turbines, transmission system design, intelligent optimization control, full-condition simulation, and intelligent operation and maintenance. He also led the development of offshore wind power support structure integrated design method (iDO) and first applied in engineering practice in China. Currently, he is the National Distinguished Expert (Chinese), a registered professional engineer in the USA, Canada and APEC, and a registered professor-level engineer in China. He is also the director of Jiangsu Provincial Technical Standard Committee for Wind Power Equipment, and Secretary-General of China Offshore Wind Association. In addition, he is the adjunct professor in North China Electric Power University, Beijing University of Technology, Tianjin University, Hehai University, and Southeast University. He was former Chief Engineer for Civil Works, Director for the Chief Engineer’s Office at the headquarters of China Three Gorges Corporation, and former Vice President of Kleinfelder Group Inc. in USA.
